Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills is one of the most well known and beloved cities in the world.  It is consists of exclusive residential neighborhoods, as well as a thriving commercial district with world renowned boutiques and restaurants.

Beverly Hills formally opened on October 22, 1906, with lots in the “500” blocks of North Crescent, Canon, Beverly and Rodeo Drives, starting at just $900.  What started out as a residential alternative for people living in downtown Los Angeles, quickly grew with the arrival of Hollywood. Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and Mary Pickford set the tone when they moved into their 14 acre Summit Drive estate, known as Pickfair.  Within a short period of time, Beverly Hills replaced Hollywood as the preferred address for successful movie stars, directors and producers.  By the late 1920s, Beverly Hills was home to John Barrymore, Clara Bow, Charlie Chaplin, Marion Davies, John Gilbert, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, Will Rogers, Gloria Swanson, King Vidor and Rudolph Valentino, among others. “Rubberneck buses” hoping to offer people views of the stars homes were soon prowling the streets with Pickfair and Valentino’s Falcon Lair among the most popular destinations.

As Beverly Hills has grown over the years, it has remained a preferred destination for many celebrities, including Lucille Ball, Rod Stewart, Nicole Kidman, Eddie Murphy, Brad Pitt, David and Victoria Beckham, Tom Cruise, Mark Wahlberg, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Britney Spears, Simon Cowell, Jennifer Aniston, Danny De Vito and Reah Pearlman, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Kirk Douglas, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Jessica Simpson, among many others.

Major east-west thoroughfares in Beverly Hills include Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard, and Sunset Boulevard.  There are several different residential areas of Beverly Hills including North of Sunset, where the average home prices are the highest in Beverly Hills; the highly desirable Beverly Hills flats neighborhood, located South of Sunset Blvd. and North of Santa Monica Blvd., the South of Wilshire neighborhood and the area west of Beverly Drive.  Each neighborhood has it’s own distinct feel and style.

Beverly Hills boasts its own police department, several parks and its own school district.  The city receives high marks for all of it’s public schools.

Shopping is prevalent along the world-famous Rodeo Drive and surrounding streets, as well as the nearby South Beverly Drive district and along Wilshire Blvd.
